Marne Hunter currently lives in Lexington, KY with her husband and their family of pets. She first became aware of chinchillas when she was 14 and read about them in an encyclopedia. She also read about their plight and the fur farming industry, and has wanted to help chinchillas ever since. Over the last 18 years, she has expanded on that knowledge through dozens of sources from several countries. She is experienced in working with abused animals, and considers such work a kind of specialty.
This experience is evident in her various pet family members: two parakeets, three rabbits, and seven chinchillas, most of which were rescued from unhealthy situations. Pepper, her first chinchilla, had been living in a small box in a pet store’s back room, struggling against a series of infections without any air conditioning. Earnest Anselm, may he rest in peace, was an under-cared-for, malnourished dwarf chinchilla bred by an uneducated breeder. Mei-Mei and Cheel were both adopted from a chinchilla rescue specifically because they had behavioral issues stemming from past abuse. Johan was adopted from another chinchilla rescue specifically because he is a dwarf chinchilla. Because of their experience with Earnest Anselm, Marne and Kjell are qualified to see to the special needs that dwarf chinchillas often present. Julietta was in their rescue, but after meeting several people, Julietta made it clear she intends to stay! She has behavioral issues similar to Mei-Mei's and we welcome her to the family. Felix is an exranchie with a desire for single living, and Hymie was rescued from certain death in Chicago.
Taking the health and well-being of all animals to heart, Marne refuses to sell anything she hasn’t given to her own pets first—after thoroughly researching all questions about the toys and products. Some people might call her picky, but she calls it the best way to ensure that you will only get the highest quality products at reasonable prices.
Kjell Williams currently lives in Lexington, KY with his wife and their family of pets. He knows little about chinchillas or other furries, though he is learning more every day. What he brings to the Wunderchins! team is a few years of experience in the IT world and telecommunications technology in general--the kinds of things that help put a website up and keep it running, essentially. The anal-retentive son of an accountant, Kjell is good at tracking inventory and orders, as well as other tasks which come along with the risks of 3rd-degree paper cuts. A burgeoning career as a starving writer, he's been known to fluff up the product descriptions, too.
Rachel Saylor currently lives in North Carolina with her husband Lucas and their 2 furry boys, Wiggles and Jiggles. While only learning about chinchillas shortly before receiving the brothers in 2006, Rachel has spent much time trying to learn as much as she can about chinchillas as a species and as wonderful members of the family. Because of their special needs, Jiggles with a missing forelimb and poor eyesight and Wiggles with a highly sensitive digestive system, Rachel works hard to ensure her boys have toys that meet both their physical needs and also their entertainment needs- both boys being especially picky and particular. This makes her uniquely qualified to work on our Natural Line.
Finally Home Chinchillas is a rescue Marne and Kjell run.
We are located in the central Kentucky area. We take any chinchilla regardless of color, challenges, characteristics and demeanor. Each chinchilla goes through a quarantine period of 30 days during which time we will monitor his or her health, personality, food and water intake, any challenges the chin may have. If the chinchilla is suitable for adoption, it will become available at that time. If issues arise, we will work intensively with the chinchilla to overcome them. In some cases, health or behavior may be such that we will place the chinchilla in our Permanently Home Sanctuary family. These chinchillas will be available for sponsorship only, as placing them in an adoptive home will place unnecessary stress on both the chin and the adoptive family.
At this time Finally Home Chinchillas is unable to take in any chinchillas.
